Founded in 1898 in Wichita, Kan., Friends University provides a Christian-based, liberal arts education for students of all denominations. Although its name and heritage are Quaker, governance of the University was vested in an independent Board of Trustees in the 1930s. Although it now operates independently of the Quaker church, it maintains an amicable relationship with its founding denomination.
As a Christian institution, Friends University incorporates learning within the context of the Christian faith. A broad-based education, one that truly expands the horizons and frees the mind, is the goal for every student. The University is committed to teaching and to the personal growth of each Friends University student.
In recent years, Friends University has developed a unique blend of a strong traditional program with that of strong non-traditional undergraduate and graduate programs for employed adults. Friends has doubled its enrollment in the last decade and today serves approximately 3,000 students from its locations in Wichita, Topeka, Lenexa and other communities throughout Kansas.
